MO SALMON SAFARI

Bjørn Moe is around all the time, and does his best to make your stay at Mo Laksegard as rewarding and relaxing as possible. He is up for anything, anything is possible, and anyone can tag along. Mo Laksegard is located at Mo in Sand in the Suldal Municipality, and the nearest village is Sand, in Ryfylke. Here you will find several hundred years of history in terms of farming, hunting, and fishing, and Bjørn is quite the local historian. He is widely known for his engagement in the local community, as well as outside of the county borders. The old school room was given to Bjørn as a gift from the community and from the Suldal Municipality, knowing that Bjørn would manage it better than anybody. TV shows from around the world, including Australia and Japan, have visited the farm to shine a spotlight on the unique Salmon Safari. The food is always good, and always homemade, the hosts are accommodating, and there is plenty of room for everyone to meet and mingle.

Suldalslågen

This river and its salmon are like Bjørn, widely renowned. One of the finest salmon rivers in western Norway has given riches, wild experiences, and conflicts throughout thousands of years, and the battle for the salmon has not only involved anglers but priests, merchants, nobles, peasants, and everyday people. The salmon in Suldalslågen are big, up there with the largest in the world. A 34 kg salmon drug around a boat and the angler for 12 hours in the direction of Sauda before being landed, and almost became the Norwegian record. It is the largest flowing river in western Norway, with plenty of salmon. With a later season than most rivers in Norway the fishing season begins the 20th of July, and goes all the way to the 1st of October. When the other salmon rivers in Norway have failed to deliver in recent seasons, Bjørn has been contacted by many an angler looking for a day on the farm and it’s beats, but once it’s full it is full!

Tradition and culture – You will see it on the reception desk and the bar, and it is taken very seriously at Mo Laksegard. The backbone of the farm is undoubtedly it’s tradition, because this place, this valley, and this river all have long histories and rich traditions that stretch all the way back to the era of the Vikings.

Salmon Fishing

Expert anglers, a beautiful river, and big salmon – three things that are sure to be found on Suldalslågen. One of western Norway’s finest salmon rivers Suldalslågen is perfect for fly-fishing. Anglers come from around the world to test their luck here. Typically, you can’t go wrong with black and green flies, preferably with a bit of yellow or red, and a touch of flash. The beats are typically long and are limited to 6 rods per beat. All the beats are either within walking distance or a short drive from Mo Laksegard. Salmon fishing has a long tradition here, dating back to English salmon lords that rented the entire river, as exclusive as salmon fishing gets. Today the fishing is much more accessible, and much more affordable to the everyday angler. Mo Laksegard offers local experienced guides who help with equipment selection, technical advice, and know exactly where the fish can be found. Remember that the Suldal salmon are big and smart, and that good advice is worth its weight in gold.

Salmon Safari and River Expeditions

Although Bjørn knew it would be a fun experience for many, he never imagined how popular the Salmon Safaris would become to swim together with the salmon. Floating freely with the current in a dry suit, diving mask, and snorkel, you will enter a new world under the surface. You will feel the power of the river on your body and come face to face with salmon on their journey upstream to their spawning grounds. Several TV stations from around the world have come to experience the Salmon Safari and share the experience with their audiences.

If you aren’t up for the challenge of floating in the river you can float on the river in a river expedition. You will paddle down the river in a raft and stop for coffee and fresh fire roasted pancakes on the riverbank. Your guide will share stories of the valley, the river, and the history of the area. At the end of the trip you will come to the Sandsfossen waterfall and the Salmon Studio, where you will have a glimpse into the exciting world of the salmon.

Wilderness retreat and team building

There is just something about getting out of the office and into the fresh air in a breathtaking landscape, especially the landscape of inner Ryfylke. Mighty valleys and rivers surrounded by forest and unique mountains will help you disconnect from the stressors of normal life. The activities at Mo Laksegard are all about team building and partnership and help to strengthen the work environment and culture. The short version (2.5 hours) will give you a taste and likely leave you wanting more, and the long version will give everyone enough time to learn a little bit more about themselves. Through the challenging yourself and your colleagues you will find it easier to take control over everyday life and exude positivity in a busy workday.
